GERRY P. GAMAN (w∴m∴ 1989-1990)
Gerry Paul Gaman was born on March 17, 1960 in Beaumont, Texas, moving to Houston shortly thereafter. He was educated in the public school system of the city, graduating from Westbury High School in 1978. After graduation, he attended Texas A & M University for two years before transferring to the University of Houston, where he majored in history. Since 1984, he has worked in the health insurance industry, and is currently employed with Universal American as a Provider Appeals Coordinator. In 2007, he earned the designation of Fellow, Life Management Institute, which is highly regarded in the insurance industry.
As a young man, Brother Gaman was a member of the Order of DeMolay, having received the degrees from Robert E. Lee Chapter in October 1974. He served as Scribe for that Chapter from 1977 to 1978, and as Scribe for the Gulf Coast Area DeMolay Association from 1979 to 1981. He is a former member of the Advisory Council of Sam B. Cantey, Jr. Chapter and of Houston Priory, Order of Knighthood. Because of his devoted service to the Order of DeMolay, he was invested with the Degree of Chevalier in 1981, and as a member of the Legion of Honor in 1992.
Brother Gaman received the degrees of Freemasonry from Jacques DeMolay Lodge No. 1390 in Houston, Texas. He was initiated as an Entered Apprentice Mason on December 28, 1981; passed to the degree of Fellowcraft on September 13, 1982; and raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason on March 5, 1983. He served as the thirtieth Worshipful Master of the Lodge for the 1989-1990 masonic year. For his many and continuing services to the Lodge, he was awarded the Golden Trowel in 1997.
Brother Gaman is a member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, having received the degrees from the Houston bodies in October 1983. He is a member of the Eighteenth Degree team, and served as Librarian for the Houston Scottish Rite Bodies from 1987 to 2007. He served as the Commander of the Houston Council of Knights Kadosh in 1998, and it was during his term that the Feast of the Kadosh was observed for the only time in the history of the Valley of Houston. For his service and devotion to the Rite, he was invested with the rank and decoration of a Knight Commander of the Court of Honour in 1991, and was coroneted an Inspector General Honorary of the Thirty-third Degree in 2001.
