Charles Clark Templeton was born on October 4, 1921 in the Houston Heights, and was educated in the public school system of the city. After graduation, he attended Louisiana Tech, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry (summa cum laude) in 1942, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he received his MS and Ph.D. in 1947 and 1948, respectively.
During World War II, he served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Wichita, seeing action in the North African and Pacific theaters of war. When discharged, he had attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
After the war, he was employed with the Shell Development Company as a chemist, retiring in 1980 after 33 years with that company.
He was married, and has four children, all sons.
Brother Templeton received the degrees of Freemasonry from Jacques DeMolay Lodge No. 1390 in Houston, Texas. He was initiated as an Entered Apprentice Mason on July 20, 1971; passed to the degree of Fellowcraft on February 15, 1972; and raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason on March 23, 1972. He served as the nineteenth Worshipful Master of the Lodge during the 1978-1979 masonic year.
Brother Templeton was a member of the Arabia Temple Shrine. He was also a member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, having received the degrees from the Houston bodies in May 1975.
Brother Templeton was deeply involved in numismatics, the collecting of coins and currency, and is a past president of both the Houston and the Bellaire Numismatics Clubs.
Brother Templeton passed away on December 28, 1999 at the age of 78.
